About Jazeen

Imaginative, empathetic, and a militant creative, Jazeen is a writer, filmmaker and comedian from Toronto, Canada.

Professional Lowdown

Jazeen graduated from OCAD University in 2015, exhibiting her thesis in graphic design at GradEX 100, where she also served on the Exhibition Planning Committee.

Her short script 'Stuck' placed as Quarterfinalist in the ScreenCraft Short Script Competition (2017). In 2019, her short film “Within the Silence” screened at the Toronto Independent Film Festival. In 2020, her environmental documentary “The Bodhi Wave” became part of Michigan University’s Sustainability program (also available for special screenings at high schools, colleges and universities across America).

Jazeen has performed stand-up comedy at Second City Toronto, Social Capital Theatre and The Comedy Bar. Before the pandemic, she was a host and producer of Toronto’s WTF Comedy — an open mic showcasing women, trans, femme and non-binary comedian talent. All proceeds went to charity.

More recently, her short stories, poetry and non-fiction have been published in Floral Fiction, Literally Stories and Faze Magazine.

She was privileged to speak to McGill University’s Wildlife Association (2018) about the impact of environmental documentaries. Jazeen has been a guest on a variety of podcasts such as Short Form (2022) and More Than Work Pod (2022).

Jazeen will be returning to academia in September 2022, to pursue her Master of Fine Arts at the University of British Columbia’s coveted Creative Writing program. Alongside her formal education, she has studied at George Brown College, University of Toronto, Second City and the Liaison of Filmmakers Toronto.
